Destin Home to First New High School in Okaloosa County in Five Decades

At last! Destin High School opens their doors to local ninth through eleventh graders this month, as the first new high school in Okaloosa County in over 50 years. Located at the former Grace Lutheran Church site, Destin High School was built to meet the ever growing needs of students and families in the Destin area.

Destin High School will offer advanced and state-mandated core curriculum, while implementing a project-based approach to learning that will hone in on the local geography, industry and community opportunities for students. Through top-knotch education and extracurricular activities, Destin High School hopes to provide a space for students to to feel safe, supported and prepared for their postsecondary goals.

The local community showed an overwhelming amount of support towards the effort to make the dream of Destin High School become a reality, raising nearly $400,000 in cash donations for the school. DHS Founders are certain the new high school will benefit families, businesses, and community stakeholders throughout Okaloosa County.

Dr. Prebble Ramswell, President of the DHS Governing Board, said in a recent press release about the grand opening, “After a five-year journey dedicated to opening a high school in Destin, our Board is beyond excited to have this community dream become a reality. We are thrilled to see the doors about to open! Of course, none of this would have happened without the support of the community and we thank them.”
